When you commission a device during addressing, Commission by zencontrol can link it to a device location that was created in advance ("pre-commissioned"), instead of always creating a new one. It matches on the location identifier (fitting number) you enter, so locations you've set up ahead of time are re-used automatically.
(Available from version 2.8.0 of Commission by zencontrol, on Android and iOS.)
How it works
When you commission a device and save its location details:
- If the device is already linked to a location, that location is updated.
- Otherwise, the app looks for an existing location on the same control system that has no device assigned and whose fitting number matches the location identifier you entered:
- A free match is found — the device is linked to that existing location (no duplicate is created).
- No match is found — a new location is created for the device.
Messages you might see
- "Location already taken. Select a different identifier." — a location with that identifier already exists and is assigned to another device. Enter a different location identifier.
- "Multiple locations for fitting number found, pick a new fitting number instead." — more than one location shares that identifier, so the app can't tell which to use. Enter a unique identifier.
