Asset tracking is a way to track assets (such as devices) as they move between controllers. Asset tracking also supports copying device settings between controllers.
How do I set up asset tracking?
Step 1: Create assets
This can be done from either the assets page, or device page.
To create assets for devices from the device page, highlight, right click and select create assets for the devices you would like to create assets for.
Step 2: Configure asset
Assets can be configured from the assets page in grid view.
Copy settings: When enabled, the device's settings will be copied to the new controller when the asset is moved.
Trigger on: The condition checked on the previous asset. When the condition is met, Action is executed.
Action: The action to be performed on the previous asset when the Trigger on condition is met.
E.g. When a device with the below asset configuration is physically moved between controllers, the device and device location on the cloud on the previous controller will be deleted when the device goes into comms error.
Troubleshooting
The asset control system will error if something goes wrong when moving an asset between control systems. This can happen if the device syncs into the new control system before the device has gone into comms error on the old control system (can happen if the old control system went offline in this time).
To remedy the issue, delete the device location and device from the old control system.
