The parent id column of the device location view in grid view is used to show which devices are bridges and what devices are behind that bridge for a thread network. If a device is successfully connected to a thread network then you will see a value in the parent id column.
If there is a little network symbol next to the value then that means it is the parent to a number of devices, if any. This device is usually a bridge and should have an associated thread which can be accessed from the TH column on the far right of the screen.
To easily see parent devices and their relevant children, you can sort by the parent id column by clicking the heading. This will sort them in order of parent id but more importantly will ensure the parent device is on top and if there are any children associated with it, they will be displayed directly underneath it.
