A target is the device, devices or groups that are being controlled.
Example, a sensor may target a room or group of devices.
Devices can have up to 16 targets which can be local or remote to another controller.
Targets can be edited through grid view and plan view. There is a dedicated FAQ for editing them in plan view.
There is a view dedicated to targets in grid view under Instance types > Instance. This will display all of the available targets for each instance here as well as some extra information such as the instance type and active level config.
The primary target, which is the first target for the instance, can be found on all of the main instance type views as well for easy editing of this target.
When you target something, you are essentially telling any events that happen on the instance to notify the thing that you are targeting. There are several different types of destinations that can be targeted.
Targets are made up of two things, a controller and a target itself. The controller dictates where events are sent to. This can be the local control system, a remote control system, or a zone. A zone is essentially a group of control systems. For more information about zones and setting them up, see the zones FAQ.
Once you have your destination set up, you need to then also specify an actual target. There are a few different types of targets you can choose from. The target list will be populated based on what is selected in the controller column so ensure this value is correct first.
- Group: Targets a DALI group on the controller
- Address: Targets a DALI ECG by address on the controller
- Broadcast: Targets all available devices on the controller
- System address: Targets a system address on the controller. This is a special type used mainly for logic. It cannot be used to store data from the event. They do not point to a physical device. For more information, see the system address FAQ.
- System variable: Targets a system variable on the controller. This is a special type, similar to system address, which is mainly used for logic. Unlike system address, the system variable can hold data from events sent to it which can then be used to do logic on the value to do different things. The values stored in the variable are different based on the type of instance and the event that occurred. These also do not point to physical devices. For more information, see the system variable FAQ.
- System variable (associated target): These are exactly the same as system variables, except instead of targeting a variable index, you specify a target type, target value and tag. These do not relate to normal DALI targets. These are set in the system variable few and are used to set multiple system variable at the same time for those using the same associated target. For more information, see the system variable FAQ.
- Comfort group/comfort address (occupancy sensor only): These two types are the same as the non-comfort variant, but they can only be set on occupancy sensors. These types are using in conjunction with comfort triggers, usually to light areas around the main target that has been set off by an occupancy sensor. For more information, see the comfort target FAQ.
