The zc-smart-fan ships in a default operating mode of Fan Controller (128) where the ECG is a device type 7 output device. In this mode the device uses virtual arc levels with a default minimum level of 1 to control the fans speed. See How do I control the speed of my fan? for how to control your smart fan in this mode.
Other control systems may not fully support virtual arc levels on device type 7 output devices. For compatibility zencontrol devices have a Device type 6 (130) operating mode to represent the fan as a device type 6 output device. Please see zc-smart-fan Configuration to configure the device into this mode. In this operating mode the fans speed is still controlled in the same way. It is important to note that the smart fan will only use a linear dimming curve as demonstrated in the article, How do I control the speed of my fan?, even if configured for logarithmic dimming. It is recommended to use arc levels as a point of truth, not intensity % when controlling the speed.
