Wiring DMX Line on the Application Control Pro and Application Controller with RS485
- Identify the Terminals:
- Locate the RS485 terminals on both the Application Control Pro and the Application Controller.
- Identify Terminal A and Terminal B on both devices.
- Wiring DMX DATA+ and DMX DATA:
- Connect Terminal A to the DMX D- Line (DATA negative)
- Connect Terminal B to the DMX D+ Line (DATA positive)
- Grounding:
- It's crucial to consider the system grounding. This ensures that the ground planes on both the Application Controls and DMX devices share the same reference.
- Locate the ground terminal on both devices.
- Connect the ground wire from one device to the ground terminal of the other device.
- Where it is not possible or practical to share a ground reference, a DMX isolator must be used.
- Termination Resistor:
- For DMX lines, it's essential to terminate the end of the line to prevent signal reflections.
- This requires a termination resistor that matches the impedance of the cable.
- Typically, a 120-ohm resistor is used for this purpose.
- Connect one end of the 120-ohm resistor to the DMX DATA+ line and the other end to the DMX DATA line at the very end of the DMX chain.
- DMX Bus Power:
- The controllers are designed to supply power to up to 32 unit loads on the DMX bus.
- If you plan to use more than 32 DMX units, it's essential to incorporate a DMX splitter/repeater into your setup. This device will ensure that the signal remains strong and consistent across all connected DMX units.
- Final Check:
- Once all connections are made, double-check to ensure that all wires are securely connected and that there are no loose ends.
- Power on the devices and test the DMX connection to ensure proper communication between the Application Control Pro and the Application Controller.
Note: Always power off the devices before making any connections to prevent any electrical shorts or damage. If you're unsure about any of the steps, consult the device's manual or seek professional assistance.
