The Smart IOT PWM (10A) supports lamp failure reporting with firmware 5.024 and later. This feature operates at 400 Hz or 1200 Hz (default: 400 Hz) and is unavailable in operating mode 0 (current monitoring).
How it works
In the default configuration, the driver supports overcurrent detection. To detect load changes, including partial lamp failure or an open circuit, the installed load must first be referenced.
Load referencing is a DALI command that measures the connected load. During referencing, all channels run at 100% output for 20 seconds, then return to their set levels.
Once referenced, the driver reports lamp failure when:
- The measured load falls outside ±10% of the expected load.
- A short circuit is detected.
- An open circuit is detected.
For example, a 2 A reference load at 50% output expects 1 A, with an acceptable range of 0.9–1.1 A.
Current limits
Lamp errors are not reported until LED current exceeds 50 mA. A load drawing less than 62 mA at 100% output cannot be referenced.
Overcurrent protection
Overcurrent protection triggers at 11.5 A and can take up to 10 seconds to switch the LEDs off. The fault is retested when the device is turned on again. Overcurrent protection does not require load referencing
Thermal protection
If the driver temperature exceeds its thermal threshold, the driver dims the load and reports lamp failure. Thermal protection does not require load referencing.
| Feature | Without load referencing | With load referencing |
|---|---|---|
| Short-circuit / overcurrent protection | ✅ Supported | ✅ Supported |
| Thermal protection | ✅ Supported | ✅ Supported |
| Partial lamp failure (load change beyond ±10%) | ❌ Not supported | ✅ Supported |
| Open-circuit detection | ❌ Not supported | ✅ Supported |
Applies to firmware 5.024 or later, at 400 Hz or 1200 Hz, excluding operating mode 0.
Notes, On older versions under 50mA the device will report lamp failure, but due to accuracy this failure may not be correct. It is advised to upgrade to firmware version 5.024 or later. Version 2.X ad 3.X versions do not support load referencing
