Installation
Prerequisites
Before you begin integrating with zencontrol and Control4 you must:
Commission zencontrol System
Ensure that the zencontrol control system's device locations, groups, and scenes are commissioned and that the system functions as expected. All configuration must be done using zencontrol tools as the Control4 driver does not support changing configuration of the zencontrol systems.
Purchase & Enable Required Licenses
- TPI Advanced
- Control4
You can view TPI Advanced status in the zencontrol grid view in the Add-ons, Third party interface tab.
See the following help articles for more information:
The network must be correctly configured
The zencontrol Application Controllers must be on the same network as the Control4 controller.
All zencontrol Drivers must be loaded (manually)
You must manually load each zencontrol driver into the Director by going to Driver > Add or Update Driver. This step must be done manually because it uploads a copy of the driver onto the Control4 Director, which allows us to automatically commission the rest of the system.
Make sure the Advanced Lighting Agent is loaded
In order to support mapping of zencontrol DALI Scenes to Control4 Scenes that can be selected on Navigators the Advanced Lighting agent must be loaded into the project. Go to Agents (bottom left hand corner of Composer), then Add (top left), then double click
Advanced Lightingto add it to the project.
Control4 Controller Performance
There are some issues with performance on low-end Control4 Controllers such as the CA-1 that are particularly noticeable when there are over approximately 32 devices and when there are many events occurring.
- If you have a larger project you must try to keep the amount of simultaneous events low by having smaller DALI groups where possible and leaving unused occupancy sensors disabled (Enabled = No).
If you are not actively debugging, make sure both zencontrol driver log level and Control4 Director log level are at "Warning".
The log-level has a large effect on system performance. To adjust the Control4 log levels go to Tools > System Diagnostics > Logging in Composer. To sync all the log-levels across zencontrol drivers use Actions > Reset All Log Levels on the controller driver.
Add Controllers
You must manually add the zc_lcm_driver driver (and all the others in the driver package) to the Control4 system using Composer. In the menu, go to Driver then select Add or Update Driver and select the zc_lcm_driver.
zencontrol is Control4 SDDP compatible allowing systems to be automatically discovered if they are on the same network.
Compatible controllers should appear in the Discovered tab on the right hand side of the System Design screen. Double click the controller and drag it into the appropriate room inside your project hierarchy.
Before commissioning, ensure that the full suite of zencontrol drivers are installed — zc_ecg_driver, zc_scene_light_driver, zc_occupancy_driver, zc_keypad_driver, zc_absolute_input_driver, zc_blind_driver, zc_fan_driver at minimum.
Commissioning zencontrol Devices
Before devices can be added, a Controller must be added via Discovery, synchronisation must complete, and you must ensure that all the drivers have been added/uploaded to the Director.
Upon adding the controller to the project it should automatically attempt to synchronise. If this fails, try running Sync manually by clicking the Actions tab and then clicking Sync With Zencontrol.
On the zencontrol Control System object in Composer, click the Actions tab and then click Commission With Zencontrol. Click OK.
The zencontrol Application Controller will be queried by Control4 for information about all devices and their attributes, and then Control4 drivers will be automatically added to the project. Do not attempt to add zencontrol drivers to the project manually.
Composer Pro may become unresponsive for a few minutes while drivers are being automatically created. This is normal.
To make lighting objects appear in Control4 navigators go to File > Refresh Navigators in Composer.
